A companion of the smartphone, the connected watch is trying to register as the missing nomad digital link. A market still in its infancy, but which already has many references, analyzed with a magnifying glass by us.

Started in 2012 with the Sony SmartWatch, the market for connected watches is still changing today and is struggling to explode, even after the recent arrival of Apple, whose Watch does not seem to have turned into a messiah of the knocking clever. Manufacturers are however very active, Samsung offering up to 6 products, which allows it to be the best seller of smartwatches in 2014 (1.2 million units).

These new devices offer the possibility of deporting all or part of the uses of a smartphone linked to his wrist, avoiding the frantic exit of the latter all day long. Multiple notifications and interactions (SMS, e-mails, calls), sports and physiological monitoring, music control ... when certain models are not real 3G / 4G mini-smartphones.

Screen or hands?

Sportingly yours

For connected sports addicts, some models specialize in sports analysis with more or less expertise. Integrated GPS, heart rate monitor, dedicated applications integrated into the system, there is plenty to do.

The big dive

Do you want to swim with your connected watch? Not all are waterproof. 3/5/10 ATM (30, 50 and 100 meters), as well as IP67 and IP68, will guarantee a water resistance ranging from simple swimming to prolonged swimming.

Hanging question

Changing the strap of these watches is not necessarily easy. Some adopt standard formats of 18/20/22 mm, others impose proprietary formats, sometimes by obligation (GPS, speaker in the clip).
